nothing wasted: a food scraps cookbook

About our Cookbook...

Welcome to the Hillcrest High School Environment Council’s Online Cookbook!

We’re so excited to share this collection of delicious, creative, and eco-friendly recipes with you.

This cookbook was born out of a shared observation within our council: food waste is becoming way too normal. We've all seen it, veggies going soft in the fridge, leftovers pushed to the back, or ingredients just a little past their best-before date ending up in the bin. But here's the thing, that food still has potential! With a little imagination and care, we can turn it into something tasty, nourishing, and even exciting.

Our goal with this cookbook is simple. We want to inspire you to rethink your food waste and show you just how easy it is to cook sustainably at home. Every recipe here has been lovingly created, tested, and perfected by our very own council members, using ingredients that might otherwise have gone to waste. We’ve aimed to make them accessible, budget-friendly, and packed with flavour.

This project has been a real labour of love, bringing together our passion for food, sustainability, and positive change. Whether you’re a student, a busy parent, or just someone looking for easy, wholesome meal ideas, we hope you’ll find something here that sparks your interest, and maybe even helps reduce waste in your own kitchen.

Thanks for supporting our mission! Together, let’s turn small changes into big impacts. One delicious meal at a time.
